What should an architecture portfolio contain?

The short answer

Three to five projects with a clear idea, process and evidence of resolution — drawings, models and photographs, not just renders.

A strong portfolio shows how you think: the brief you set yourself, the site questions you asked, the iterations, and the resolved drawings. Depth on a few projects reads better than a gallery of unrelated images.

Include academic and personal work, and label your contribution on group projects. For a first job, hand drawings, physical models and construction details are valued as much as polished visuals.
